Armenia's Tourism Competitiveness

A look over the Global Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2011.

The World Economic Forum has published the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2011 on March 7, 2010. The report ranks Armenia 90th among the 139 countries assessed.

While the report assessment is conducted via monitoring of 68 indicators, we’d like to present those that would probably be of the most interest for a foreign traveler in Armenia. The table below summarizes the chosen indicators and Armenia’s stance according to the report assessment.

Indicator
Armenia’s stance in 2011 (among 139 countries)[1]
Tourism openness
33
Hospital beds
41
Carbon dioxide emissions
51
Road traffic accidents
53
Purchasing power parity
62
Number of World Heritage cultural sites
62
Ticket taxes and airport charges
67
Number of operating airlines
69
Quality of air transport infrastructure
7
Presence of major car rental companies
80
ATMs accepting Visa cards
80
Quality of ground transport network
81
Hotel price index
82
Openness of bilateral Air Service Agreements
91
Hotel rooms
108
[1] Based mainly on 2009 data.

The message is clear: You are welcome to visit one of the world’s most open countries with developing infrastructure and average prices. And yes, make sure to book your hotel room in advance (especially during the top season) as there are relatively less hotel rooms compared to the most benchmark countries.
